As parents, you have to use your own judgment, but in some cases you may want to use software provided by internet service providers that set limits or allow you to monitor what they do. The internet is no different than the town you live in when it comes to wanting to protect your children from certain things or places. One big mistake most parents make is being over protective. Even though you only want whats best for them you must let them grow and learn how to deal with the world on their own to some extent. Your teenager will at some point want to start going out after dark, hanging with friends, driving and dating among other things that parents are often frightened about. Before you put yourself into a power struggle with your teen for saying no too much ask yourself if you are really just worried about them or if it’s the fact that you don’t want them to grow up too fast. Whether you want to admit it or not your teenager is going to grow up and you must accept that fact.

Teens can strain a marriage especially when the parents disagree on best practices. It’s important to focus on your relationship with your spouse as well as with your teen. They are sensitive to their environment even though you may thing they are disinterested. Most often the tension between parents is a cause of the emotional problems faced by teens. Compromise with your spouse when it comes to parenting issues. Above all, don’t let your teenager play one parent against the other, as this is not good for anyone. There are many challenges and rewards when it comes to parenting teenagers but if you are patient you can pull through with flying colors. You have to expect your teenagers to be difficult at times, but the important thing is to not lose contact with them.
