The Purpose of Phonic Lesson Plans




Basically, the teaching of phonics to children is to let them learn the sound-spelling relations and how to use these relations in being able to read the words. One important consideration is that phonics instructions should be explicit and methodical. Thus, we should have the all-important phonic lesson plans.

Being explicit means the sound-spelling relationship should be taught right to the scholars. It is methodical as it pursues a scope that lets youngsters form and read words early.

This linguistic term includes words inside sentences, rhyming units inside words, the sound of beginning and finishing sounds of words, syllables inside words. It also includes phonemes and the special feature of the way the mouth, tongue, vocal cords, and the teeth are used to make the sound.

This awareness ( or learning ) is a crucial prerequisite talent before children learn how to associate sounds with letters and to manipulate sounds to mix or segment words.

Common problems of phonic lesson plans

Kids customarily have problems with phonics because they have not developed the phonological awareness abilities. Kids who were exposed to rhymes, songs and being read to have the talents.

For example, when a kid is asked what sound the words sit, sand, and sock have in common, the child might not be able to say anything. The child might have Problems in discriminating sounds in words, or can’t segment the sounds within the words, or totally does not know the meaning of sound.

In good working phonic lesson plans, the 1st lesson should be teaching first the rudiments of separating the sound of the letter / s / in the words sit, sand and sock.

It’s great to move thru the activities quickly . You don’t need to spend too much instruction time on them. They are engineered to speedy and playful.

You want to say all the sounds, taking care not to twist anything. Of course, you should not expect instant mastery of all talents. Some children need more repetitions and prospects.

Eventually, have your phonic lesson plan have provisions to have intervention activities at the end of each lesson. There are scholars who require these intervention activities for better absorption of the lessons.
